Who in the world would not know Elmo?

The cute, cuddly, and sweet little red monster of Sesame Street is back. Not a mere stuff toy anymore but a truly life-like creation. Thanks to technology this little red monster can actually have a conversation as he opens and closes his mouth. Adding more to his talking is his mannerisms and gestures as he stands, sits, wave his hands and cross his legs while telling stories and jokes, singing songs and playing games. Kids can activate the magic with just a tickle or a squeeze of Elmo’s foot, tummy, back or nose.

This little baby is approximately 12” in height and requires six (6) AA batteries.

Elmo live is surely alive! So kids and kids at heart grab one of this while supply last.

"There's Still Hope"

ads here too

December 1 is near and people of the world marks this date to commemorate and give strength to people who are a victim of this incurable disease, the World AIDS Day.

While browsing for some techie gadgets and stuff on the net I found this article from the Entitled “A Cure for AIDS”, could this be the answer… could this be the cure that people with AIDS are waiting for. To others it maybe impossible to hear but for the affected ones this gives them hope and faith.

According to the article an American ex-pat national with AIDS was just cured but by accident while treating his leukemia. The American ex-pat was under going a very expensive, complicated and risky procedure. He was suffering from leukemia as well as a full-blown case of AIDS. The man’s case was so desperate that these German doctors decided to give him a bone-marrow transplant. According to the article the doctors use blood stem cells from a donor who was immune to HIV. The case was discovered 10 years ago doctors find out that few of their gay male patients never developed AIDS, despite engaging in risky sex with hundreds of partners. It turned out that they had a rare mutation called Delta 32 that blocks a molecule in HIV from adhering to the cell surface. Delta 32 must be inherited from both parents; it occurs at a rate of roughly 1 percent in European populations (it's more common in Northern Europe and much much, rarer--basically unheard of--in Africa and Asia), so it was difficult but not impossible for the doctors to find a donor in Germany who fit the bill. So on with the treatment and the patient was asked to stop taking his antiretroviral AIDS medication for the time being while undergoing the procedure. Understanding that once he stopped taking his medication he would start again to stop the rising of virus in his bloodstream. To their amazed, it never rose and its been close to two years since the transplant and still no traces of HIV in the blood or brain tissues.

With this breakthrough at least there’s a start for other doctors and scientist to study more and dig deeper on how to fully cure this incurable disease. Never lose hope and keep the faith alive.

"Bonifacio Day"

November 30, a date marked as red on the Philippine Calendar which signifies holiday. This holiday is exclusively for Andres Bonifacio to commemorate him as one of the National Heroes who fought for the liberation and freedom of all Filipinos and to celebrate his birthday.

The odd thing here is that all national heroes like Jose Rizal were remembered on the day of their death but Andres Bonifacio was remembered on his birthday. Strange and ironic.
In addition to the irony and strangeness of Andress Bonifacio’s life, first he is the “Supremo” (Supreme) of all the “Katipuneros” (Council) and he formed the “Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galangan Katipunan or KKK” a revolutionary organization formed to fight against the Spaniards and yet he was not proclaimed as the Philippine National Hero. Second, he was a member of the Mason, only few and educated person are eligible on that time but still he was coined as a poor man who wears farmer’s clothes with a bolo on his hand and little education. And the third, he fought for the Filipinos and yet he was executed by his fellow Filipino.

Remember Andres Bonifacio, enlighten history and forget what you have learned.

"Unique Christmas Tree"

A few weeks to go and Holiday season is here. At this time most of us are very decorating our houses with Christmas decors and Christmas lights. For most people Christmas won't be complete without a Christmas tree, be it a one rule height or as high as a five story building or even higher.

Some people even create and innovate the look and style of Christmas trees. From indigenous materials to a more sophisticated tree with lights and sounds. But how about a stack of 43 LCD televisions! Shocking and eye-popping right, that's what happened to commuters in Grand Central Station when Sharp unveiled a 26-foot tall Christmas tree made of 43 Aquous LCD Televisions. It is set-up into diminishing in size from 52 inches at the bottom to 19 inches at the top. This televisions are set up and wired together to display coordinated video shows, such as a waterfall that spills from the top panels down to the bottom of the Christmas tree.

I'm sure a lot of people will surely dropped their jaws when passing by.

"A Smart Coaster"

ads here too

While browsing the Popular Science website I found this cool and smart way to know if your coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or any hot drinks is okay and safe to drink without burning your lips or your tongue.

Common coffee brewers produce a cup of perfect coffee that is positively molten to the tongue, at 160ºF. Even as this marvelous beverage fills your room-temperature cup, temps can still reach a blistering 137.1ºF. Finally, after a couple of minutes cooling, your coffee is safe to drink, at a lukewarm 116.5ºF.

If you like, you can build your own hot drink detector the “Smart Coaster”.

TIME: 3 hours
COST: $8.61

• LM324N (Mouser #512-LM324N; $0.36)
• Thermistor (I used an obsolete thermistor from Electronic Goldmine #G1929 for my circuit.) Try this one from SparkFun Electronics #SEN-00250; $1.95
• 1K resistor (Mouser #660-CFS1/4C102J; $0.05)
• Red LED (I used a salvaged LED for my circuit.) Try this one from Mouser #696-SSLLX5093HD-5V; $0.27
• 10K resistor (Mouser #660-CFS1/4CT52R103G; $0.08)
• 10K potentiometer [I used a salvaged pot for my circuit.] Try this one from SparkFun Electronics #COM-00104; $0.95
• 3.7V battery (SparkFun Electronics #PRT-08818; $4.95)
• Scrap wire
• Round flat-top metal container (I used a salvaged Kiwi Brands shoe polish container -- just to prove to some of you that I do know shinola.)

1. Clip off the unnecessary legs from the LM324N IC: keep pins 1, 2, 3, 4, and 11.
2. Attach the thermistor to the inside of the metal container's lid with some tape. Be sure to insulate both of the thermistor leads.
3. Drill a hole in the side of your metal container for holding the red LED. Insulate the bottom of the metal container with some scrap paper or 2mm hobby foam.

Smart Coaster Schematic: Dave Prochnow

4. Follow our schematic for building the Smart Coaster circuit.
5. Fit the components inside the metal container, connect the 3.7V battery, and close the metal lid. You can easily test your completed project by turning the potentiometer until the LED just turns off (this is roughly equal to room temperature). Now hold one of your hot little fingers on the lid of the Smart Coaster. Within about 5-10 seconds, the LED should turn on. If not, then open up your metal container and carefully reexamine your wiring. If this test result is OK, you are now ready to calibrate your Smart Coaster.Smart Coaster Main Circuit: Dave Prochnow

Place your cup of fresh brew on the Smart Coaster and use the 10K potentiometer to adjust the sensitivity of the thermistor. Turn the potentiometer until the red LED glows and closely monitor the temperature of your beverage. When the cup's temps have fallen to your desired drinking level, turn the potentiometer until the LED goes out. Your Smart Coaster is now calibrated for monitoring your future drink temps. Remember, if you change cups or mugs you will have to recalibrate the Smart Coaster. Bottoms up.

Hope this helps a bit!

"Opinion and Pointers: Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State"

1. President-elect Barrack Obama sure is serious in bringing all the best and type of political officials. If he pulls everything together, primarily Senator Hillary Clinton as one of his government arm, his term as president would be as hard as metal. Not easy to pound down.

2. Senator Hillary Clinton has a full scale experience in talking and visiting other countries, as first lady and as senator.

3. Senator Clinton is a world icon.

4. Accepting the offer as Secretary of State is a great responsibility for her which means sacrificing her fight for domestic issues.

5. If Senator Clinton will consider this, I'm sure she will accept the offer as Secretary of State.

"Creating Diamonds from Tequila?"

ads here too

Would you believe creating a diamond out of a famous mexican liquor "the tequila"? Yes! Indeed this was from the "too good to be true" files, from Popular Science. A great new leap for all alchemist.

A team of Mexican scientist have discovered a way to create diamonds out of the famous liquor tequila.

Javier Morales, Luis Apatiga and Victor Castaño of the National Autonomous University of Mexico made an exciting discovery in turning various organic solutions into diamonds. An 80-proof or 40% alcohol had the ideal proportion of ethanol to water to create diamond films.
In order to create and produce diamonds, they process the tequila by evaporating it into vapor and then heated above 1400 degrees Fahrenheit before depositing on silicon or stainless steel trays. The result were diamond films free of impurities.

This diamond fils can be used in several commercial applications, like in optical electrical devices and as cutting tools.

The scientist have bigger plans insight too and they're hoping to find a tequila distiller to provide them with supplies. Tequila drinkers sure find a new competition.
